Packing for a holiday
With careful planning the quintessential road trip can be a pleasant way to start your holiday. Not only is it a more affordable option, but it also provides you with the flexibility of visiting attractions along the way to your destination.
To make your road trip run smoothly follow our check list below:
1. Holiday Essentials
Making a list of all your essential items prior to departure, will make packing and the drive stress free. The last thing you want to do is panic halfway to your destination, thinking that you have forgotten something!
To aid in your holiday planning we have compiled a list to start your off, but you may wish to download our essential holiday guide to add to the list.
- Charger cables – phones, tablets, cameras
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Insect repellents
- Wet wipes / Tissues
- Shampoo / conditioner / body wash
- Sunscreen
- First Aid Kit (see below)
- Sanitary products
- Aftersun (just in case)
- Tweezers
- Nail clippers
- Lip balm
- Vitamins, antihistamines, antiseptics and other essential or prescribed medicines
- Sunglasses and for glasses or contact wearers: lens cleaning wipes, contact solution and contact cases
- Enough clothes for everyday of the trip plus 2 spares
- Thongs/ sandals
- Runners
- Hats
2. Car Tool Kit
If you plan on exploring off-road or just require the basics, here are some essential tools that will help you repair your car:
- First Aid kit including insect repellent, bandaids and Panadol
- Car jack
- Spare tyre (ensure its inflated to the right tyre pressure)
- Socket & screwdriver set
- Plumbers/ duct tape
- Jumper Cables
- Flashlight
- We highly recommend a membership with a road service body
For 4WD enthusiasts:
- A good-quality tyre-pressure gauge
- Tyre deflator
- Vehicle-recovery tracks
- Air compressor
- Long-handled shovel
- Rated bow shackles and snatch strap/ tow rope
3. Road Trip Supplies
Save the “are we there yet?” by packing a few essentials that are close to hand for the trip:
- Food glorious food – enough food and water for the road trip including lunch and snacks – its amazing how hungry one gets when they are just sitting around
- Toys (age appropriate, matchbox cars, a blown up balloon, soft toy, colouring books)
- Classic Car Games – print out our go to car games for hours of old school entertainment
- Change of clothes – for any little accidents
- Charge all batteries (including phones, mp3 players, DVD players…)
- Rubbish Bag
- Tissues/ wet wipes
- Sunscreen
- Lip balm
- Portable/ car DVD player or ipad (when all else fails)
